Mayors and General Managers from Kempsey, Bellingen and Port Macquarie-Hastings councils have commenced a new model of regional collaboration and planning under the structure of a Joint Organisation.

The inaugural meeting of the Mid North Coast Joint Organisation (MNCJO) was held in Kempsey on 13 June and paves the way for how the councils will work with the NSW Government on high priority projects in this region. Representatives from the Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Office of Local Government were also in attendance.

Eleven (11) joint organisations across regional NSW comprising of over 90% of existing regional councils have been declared with the NSW Government providing $300,000 in seed funding to establish the new regional body.

The MNCJO will work closely with the State Government to make sure investment in infrastructure, services and facilities for this region’s communities is strengthened.

Ageing infrastructure, increasing populations, employment and service creation are regional challenges. Therefore, it makes sense that these big picture issues are attacked at a regional level to unsure we can be sustainable. Those councils on the Mid North Coast not currently members of the MNCJO would be welcome to join in the future.

First priorities for the JO include identifying priority projects for the region and advocating to the Government for support for their implementation.
