Green Cestrum
Green Cestrum (Cestrum parqui)
The plant or parts of the plant should not be traded, carried, grown or released in the environment. Land managers should mitigate the risk of the plant establishing on or spreading from their land.
All parts of Green Cestrum are poisonous. Wear gloves and other protective clothing when handling the plant.
How does this weed affect you?
Green cestrum is a large shrub with shiny leaves, clusters of yellow flowers and shiny, black berries. It is highly poisonous to cattle and can kill both animals and humans. Green cestrum can cause ‘sudden death’ in livestock.
Green Cestrum outcompetes other vegetation and reduced food and shelter for native animals. This weed contains the carboxyparquin poison that causes liver and brain damage. Even when they have been cutdown or sprayed, they are still poisonous.
