Frogbit (Limnobium laevigatum)

PROHIBITED MATTER: If you see this plant, report it. Call the NSW Department of Primary Industries Biosecurity Helpline on 1800 680 244.

This plant must not be sold anywhere in New South Wales.

How does this weed affect you?

Frogbit is a fast-growing, floating freshwater weed that forms large dense mats across the water's surface. These mats reduce the amount of light, food and shelter for fish and other aquatic animals.

Frogbit is known to block waterways and irrigation channels with its growth and create dangerous conditions by hiding the water surface, which makes it appear as if the weed is firm ground.

Because of this, Frogbit can limit access to recreational activities such as fishing, swimming and boating.
