Cat's claw (Dolichandra unguis-cati)

This plant is a weed of significance. It must not be sold anywhere in New South Wales.

How does this weed affect you?

Cat's claw creeper is a rapidly growing climbing vine that forms in dense mats that compete with native plants and seedlings, often restricting their growth or killing them.

The plant is known to create gaps in the tree canopies, which changes the environmental conditions for nearby plants and reduces the availability of food and shelter for native wildlife.

Cat's claw creeper is capable of damaging infrastructure such as fences and sheds, as well as causing entire trees to fall from the weight of the vines.

The vine has been known to create changes in water flow as it can cause large plants and trees to fall into waterways.
