Five Headlands Coastal Experience - Construction Phases

Crescent Head to Goolawah Beach

The first phase of construction is taking place in Crescent Head, where trail users will see the upgrade and realignment of the existing "Fisherman's Track" situated between the water tower located on Skyline Crescent and the northern section of Goolawah Beach.

The revitalised trail, designed in collaboration with NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), will result in a safer and more accessible route, with a more gradual slope that caters to a wider range of fitness levels.

Details

  • Trail Length: This segment of Five Headlands Coastal Experience will be approximately 636 metres long.
  • Construction Techniques: Environmentally conscious methods using both small plant machinery and hand tools. A helicopter will be utilised to transport materials where necessary to ensure minimal long-term impact to the terrain adjacent to the track.
  • Signage and Infrastructure: Wayfinding and interpretive signage and resting benches for trail users’ comfort and safety.

What's the timeline?

Construction on this segment is set to begin in early February 2025 and is expected to take nine weeks. The construction dates for future segments have not yet been set.

Helicopter Drops

To ensure the safe and efficient delivery of materials, helicopter drops will occur on Tuesday 25 March.

During these times, sections of the trail will be closed to pedestrians, and the Goolawah Beach carpark will be closed from 24-27 March to house the materials needed for this. We kindly ask all residents and visitors to follow all instructions and signage in and around construction zones.

Your safety is our top priority. Please exercise caution, stay clear of active construction areas and respect all detours or closures in place.

A key consideration when developing the flight plan has been to minimise disruption to residents, visitors and business operators.

We thank you for your patience as we work to create this remarkable addition to the Macleay Valley Coast.
