Stuarts Point Holiday Park roadworks

SITE PLAN - SPHP - Roadworks.jpg

Summary

Kempsey Shire Council will be upgrading several sections of the Stuarts Point Holiday Park.

The project is delivering much needed stormwater drainage rectification and road rehabilitation works throughout an area of the park.

To date works have focused on excavating old kerbs and gutters and placement/pouring of new kerbs and gutters and excavating old and placing new stormwater lines and pits throughout the works area.

The project is funded via the Macleay Valley Coast Holiday Parks.

Status

Works started in March 2024.

Timeframe

Works are expected to continue for 9 weeks, depending on the weather.

The works schedule is from 7am - 5pm Monday - Friday, with Saturday work a possibility depending on the progress of the project.

Funding

Funding for this project is through Macleay Valley Coast Holiday Parks.

Update

  • Contractors will be removing a defined depth of existing pavement surface from Friday 19 April. This process will create noise and potentially dust.
  • Works will continue with onsite stabilisation and laying of final trim on 22 and 23 April, which involves the spreading of lime-based mix, which can create dust and steam. Contractors will be reviewing wind and weather conditions to ensure appropriate conditions are met before this work proceeds.
  • Laying of final trim will continue on Wednesday 24th and this will mark the end of the most disruptive portion of works.
  • No works will occur on Anzac Day, 25 April, or 26 April.
  • Works will continue from 29 April, mainly focusing on spraying a seal on 30 April and laying the final asphalt layer on 2 and 3 May.
  • The above dates are dependent on weather.
  • While initially works were not intended to run over the school holiday period, further discussion with the Park Managers revealed that this was actually a lower occupancy period for the park due to the demographic of their client base, with the majority of visitors being retirees/grey nomads who avoid the park in school holiday periods. The decision to proceed with works over this period was made as it allows us to reduce potential risks associated with undertaking works in a period of higher occupancy.

Background

In March 2017, Kempsey Shire Council (Council) resolved to accept a tender from Australian Tourist Park Management Pty for the management of the coastal holiday parks at Grassy Head, Stuarts Point, Horseshoe Bay, Hat Head and Crescent Head. Subsequently, Council and Australian Tourist Park Management Pty executed the Macleay Valley Coastal Holiday Parks Management Deed in June of 2017.

In April 2021, Council adopted 10-year Master Plans for each of its Macleay Valley Coast Holiday Parks (Holiday Parks) to provide strategic direction for the Capital Works program to upgrade, replace and refurbish built assets within the Holiday Parks

Rehabilitation of the internal roads at Stuarts Point Holiday Park are part of Council's ongoing maintenance and upkeep commitments under the Macleay Valley Coastal Holiday Parks Management Deed.
