Signage Strategy

Kempsey Shire Council is committed to improving signage throughout the shire with the aim of improving visitor experiences, clearer directions to destinations for commuters, and better branding of the shire towns, villages, and special localities. Council aims to achieve improved signage through its Signage Strategy(PDF, 8MB)  and supporting Policy, Procedure, and Style Guide.

The Signage Strategy identifies current issues, in principle aims for improved signage, and a schedule of actions to achieve the aims and objectives of the strategy. Implementation of the strategy is planned to occur initially with the identified short-term actions over the next 2 to 3 years and the medium to longer-term actions being implemented subject to available funding.

The supporting Policy now establishes for the Council, the Community, and stakeholders clear aims, and objectives for the ongoing management of signage infrastructure. The Policy also identifies the scope of signs covered and those signs excluded from the Policy. The Procedure describes in detail the types of signs, design information, and how to apply for the installation of a sign or related facility. The Style Guide has been developed as a tool to assist the design of Council branded signs such as town entry signs and signs for Council facilities such as playing fields, public buildings, and other Council-owned assets.
