Sherwood Road Bridge Full Closure - 18 November
Kempsey Shire Council wishes to inform residents and road users of the upcoming temporary closure of the Sherwood Road bridge to facilitate critical infrastructure repairs. The bridge will be closed to all traffic from 18 November for approximately 2 weeks ending 29 November 2024.
These works will cover the entire width of the bridge and are designed to ensure long-term safety and reliability for all road users. Unfortunately, this closure will impact all vehicles, including school buses. Road users are advised the alternative crossings of the Macleay River are at Lord Street Kempsey, and Turners Flat Road at Skillion Flat.
The repairs will be carried out by Council’s contractor, Alliance Construction Group (ACG), beginning on 18 November. Road sealing is scheduled pending favourable weather conditions. While the anticipated completion date is 29 November 2024, there may be unforeseen delays, and updates will be provided as necessary.
To minimise disruption, Variable Message Sign (VMS) boards will be placed well in advance to keep the community informed and provide timely updates.
We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period. For those affected by this closure, we encourage planning ahead and considering alternate routes to avoid potential delays. Should you have any questions or require further information, please don’t hesitate to contact Kempsey Shire Council.
Thank you for your support in helping us improve our local infrastructure.
