Arakoon National Park Cardwell Street carpark upgrade

On display until 30 November 2024, 12:00 PM

The National Parks and Wildlife Service will shortly be commencing work to improve the parking facilities at Arakoon National Park’s day-use area off Cardwell Street.

Work will begin on Monday 30th September 2024, with expected completion by late November 2024. As shown in the attached image, the car park will be closed for the duration of the construction works to ensure the safety of members of the public and site workers. Alternative car parking can be found at the font of the Arakoon NPWS depot or at Trial Bay Gaol Campground.

While alternative pedestrian access to the beach will remain open during most of the construction phase, there may be occasional public access day closures. There will be an increase in machinery and truck activity in the area during the hours 7:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday. Safety is our top priority, so please exercise caution if accessing this area during this time.

The upgrade works will include resurfacing the carpark area, line marking parking bays and addressing drainage issues. There will be some minimal vegetation clearance undertaken during construction works to meet Australian Standard requirements. Offset planting will take place on completion of the project.

This project is Stage 1 of the infrastructure improvement works at the Cardwell Street Precinct in line with the Macleay Coast Master Plan.  Stage 2 is reliant on future funding but includes development of an amenities block and connecting green space.
