The Minister of Employee Relations has declared the 2024 Kempsey Show and the 2024 Kempsey cup as part-day local events from midday to 6pm for the Kempsey Shire.
Local event days do not mean that employers in the Kempsey Shire are automatically obliged to treat the part-day as a public holiday. Employers do not have to pay their staff penalty rates. It also means that banks or shops are not prevented from opening or trading.
The applications were advertised online for submissions from businesses and the community with no feedback received.
Councillors agreed in 2023 to submit the application to the Minister for declaration.

- The Kempsey Show - Wednesday, 10 April 2024
- The Kempsey Cup - Friday, 8 November 2024
