Ways to save during cooler months
Published on 03 July 2023
With each new season comes the challenge to keep your home a comfortable temperature without breaking the bank!
For these cooler winter months, use this checklist to keep energy consumption and prices low:
- Turn your thermostat down to 19-20°C and heat only the areas in your house that you need – close off those spare rooms, hallways, bathroom and laundryif possible.
- Open your curtains and blinds during the day to let the sun heat your home but close doors, windows and curtains at the end of the day when the temperature drops.
- Seal drafts around windows and doors
- If you have solar at your home, heat your home slightly during the day (using solar power) and then turn heating down at night as this is usually the most expensive time of day to use energy
- Ceiling fans can be reversed in winter to help bring warm air down from ceiling level. Check your model of fan and make the change – the fan should then rotate clockwise and help you achieve a more comfortable and warmer environment.
