Use your phone to put out the bins this Christmas

Kempsey Shire Council will offer a Christmas fortnight of three bin service that they hope will inspire residents to download their new waste app to help them with their bins the whole year round.
Household waste increases by 30% during the festive season and Council is helping residents organise their waste with a new app as well as bringing additional kerbside bin collection services over the Christmas period.
For residents who find themselves always checking which bin the neighbours have put out or questioning what waste goes in which bin, life is a whole lot easier with the free Kempsey Shire Waste App.
The newly unveiled Kempsey Shire Waste App has all your waste related questions in one location – on your smart device that is!
With the Kempsey Shire Waste App residents can:
- Look up their bin collection days
- Set a weekly reminder to put their bins out
- Reorder their kitchen caddy bags
- Search the A-Z guide for what goes in which bin
- Contact Council about any waste issues
- Check opening times & locations of Waste Transfer Stations
The Kempsey Shire Waste App can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store. Head to Kempsey Shire Waste App
Kempsey Shire Waste Coordinator Maria Doherty said while Council acknowledges that Christmas time means more household waste, she believes residents want to put as little in the red bin as they can.
“Christmas is a time of gifts and guests and feasting and that means more waste is produced, so Council is happy to run extra waste services over the Christmas period,” said Ms Doherty.
“But for the remaining weeks of the year, its amazing what should actually go in the yellow or green bins. The red bins are the bin of last resort. And the app will show you how easy that is to live with.”
Residents can put all three bins out on their usual bin nights between 20 and 31 December for collection.
