The Kempsey Family History Group has announced that its highly anticipated exhibition "Sisters in Chains" will be extended until 18 February.

The exhibition, which explores the fascinating and often untold stories of female convicts with local ties, sent out on prison ships nearly two hundred years ago, has been met with great interest from the community.

Supported by a Kempsey Shire Council Community Grant, the exhibition is being held at the historic Kempsey Railway Station Old Refreshment Rooms and is open to the public for free.

Visitors can see the intriguing and informative displays on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm until 18 February.

The opening event last Thursday was attended by local dignitaries, including Mayor Leo Hauville who spoke about the project's support through one of their Community Grants.

The event was a great success, and the Kempsey Family History Group is thrilled with the positive response to the exhibition.

"We are so proud to have the opportunity to share these important and often forgotten stories of our local heritage," said Debbie Reynolds from the Kempsey Family History Group.

"We encourage everyone to come and experience this fascinating exhibition for themselves."

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn more about the rich history of Kempsey and its residents.

The "Sisters in Chains" exhibition is open until 18 February at the Kempsey Railway Station Old Refreshment Rooms.
