Are you attracted to our attractions?

New signs across the Kempsey Shire could be the difference in helping to attract more visitors to local businesses and attractions.
Kempsey Shire Council and signage consultancy, Wayfound, have developed a draft signage strategy, policy and guidelines which aim to improve how visitors and residents are guided through the shire.
Council engaged with the community in early 2022 to find out what the community’s concerns were with existing signs and what areas could be improved on.
In the first two rounds of engagement, respondents said our current signage across the shire was not sufficient.
The community identified that clear directional street signage, places of interest and facilities and dual naming of community infrastructure in English and Indigenous language as the most important priorities.
Wayfound’s Kim D’Alton, said the strategy, policy and guidlines are designed to set a clear path for the future planning, design and implementation of Council owned signs.
“Signs in the Kempsey Shire are generally in good condition but there appears to be a lack of clear and consistent messaging and an overabundance of signs in some locations,” he said.
Following feedback and a signage audit, Council has listed some proposed actions in the strategy which includes new signage at town entry points, parks and reserves and visitor information signage.
View the signage strategy, policy and guideline documents and complete the survey to let us know what you think of the actions.
For the survey, documents and more information go to council’s engagement website, Your Say Macleay.
Feedback closes at 4pm Friday 21 October.
