Say goodbye to 2021’s lockdowns and hello to 2022’s glitz and glam!

All residents of Kempsey Shire and neighbouring areas will be able to finally shake off the shackles of a long two years with a fully accessible dinner and dance as tickets go on sale for the Glitz and Glamour Ball in March next year.
After multiple cancelations and postponements due to COVID restrictions, the conclusion of the 2021 International Day of People with Disability program will come to life on Saturday 5 March 2022 at the Slim Dusty Centre with a great evening planned to celebrate the contributions and achievements of people with disability.
The ball is put on by Kempsey Disability Steering Committee and open to all, with a focus on accessibility, and tickets traditionally sell very quickly.
Kempsey Shire Council Community Projects Officer, Aisha Spokes, said the Committee’s goal is to promote and host events that foster inclusiveness, interaction and social awareness of people with disability.
“Too often people with disability miss out on experiences enjoyed by people without disability, and we want to support events that better represent our community,” said Ms Spokes.
“If an event organiser can take into account and incorporate access considerations, they will see increased attendance. And the steps aren’t hard. For example, we are advertising the Glitz and Glamour Ball a few months in advance in the hope this will make it easier for those who wish to attend to organise carers, tickets and of course, their outfits.”
The Glitz and Glamour Ball will be held on Saturday 5 March 2021 between 5.30 and 11pm at the Slim Dusty Centre in South Kempsey.
For the low price of $75, or $35 for those with a health care or concession card, a Glitz and Glamour ball ticket provides access to the event, a complimentary drink on arrival, dinner, entertainment and dancing, all in an accessible environment. This is an 18+ event.
Tickets can be purchased online now through EventBrite or at the following locations:
- Kempsey Shire Council Customer Service Centre - 22 Tozer Street West Kempsey
- Key Employment at 14-18 Tozer Street, West Kempsey.
