Wrap of the October 2021 Council meeting

The October 2021 Ordinary Meeting of Kempsey Shire Council took place in Council Chambers from 9am on Tuesday 26 October.
Councillors agreed motions including a planning proposal for the Macleay Recreation Adventure Park, placing a draft Reconciliation Action Plan on public exhibition and selecting a tender for the South Kempsey Pressure Sewer Scheme.

Macleay Valley Recreation Adventure Park
Council agreed to submit a planning proposal for the Macleay Recreation Adventure Park to the state government to seek a Gateway Determination.
A Gateway Determination will decide if the proposal contains all the required information to proceed with the project, or if the plans will need reassessing and re-submitting.
2021-22 Community Grants Program
Council assessed the proposed recipients of its Community Grants Program. These consisted of 20 community groups successfully applying for grants across various funding streams.
This item was unanimously endorsed by Councillors meaning a total of $72,527 will be provided in this round of Community Grants.
Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan
Council agreed to place a draft Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan on public exhibition.
As part of Council’s ongoing commitment to reconciliation, the draft plan has been developed outlining the steps Council will take to prepare the organisation for inclusive initiatives that will help unite our community.

Mid North Coast Joint Organisation
Council acknowledged the progress of the Mid North Coast Joint Organisation in delivering strategic priorities for the Kempsey Shire, Bellingen Shire and Port Macquarie-Hasting Councils including readiness and recovery programs, environment initiatives as well as addressing housing and skills shortages.
Other outcomes
Council noted the increased cost to raise flood prone properties since joining the Voluntary House Raising Scheme in 2007 and removed the current cap on reimbursement. The scheme provides funding to assist homeowners to raise their properties house.
Council awarded EIRE Constructions the tender for the South Kempsey Pressure Sewer Scheme.
Council noted the progress of the Macleay Valley Coast Economic Development Tourism Strategy Horizon 2030, which outlines the vision for economic development and growth of the shire.
