Get involved this National Road Safety Week

Kempsey Shire Council are appealing to drivers to take the road safety pledge so others survive, as part of Yellow Ribbon National Road Safety Week from 16 to 23 May 2021.
National Road Safety Week encourages road users to Take the Pledge:
- I pledge to drive as if my loved ones are on the road ahead.
- I will remove all distractions and never use my mobile phone while driving.
- I will not put other people at risk by speeding, driving while tired or under the influence of alcohol/drugs.
- I will protect all vulnerable road users, especially those whose job places them in harm’s way, by slowing down and giving them the space they need to be safe.
Kempsey Shire Council General Manager, Craig Milburn, said there are habits we can all change to help remain safe on the roads.
“Keep your eyes on the road and not on your phone, be aware of vulnerable road users and most importantly slow down.”
“Speeding is the major cause of crashes in the Macleay Valley and the majority of people involved in these crashes are locals,” said Mr Milburn.
Statistics show that each year around 1,200 people are killed and 44,000 are injured on Australian roads and it is important that Aussies help to reduce fatal and casualty crashes by being aware and changing habits.
Take the Pledge online or #DriveSoOthersSurvive and show your support by:
- Wearing a yellow ribbon.
- Displaying a yellow ribbon on your vehicle.
- Checking out the buildings and bridges lit up in yellow.
- Taking a pledge to drive without distraction.
- Driving within the posted speed limit.
National Road Safety Week is an annual initiative from Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, partners in road safety with the State and Federal Government.
