From the Mayor's Desk: Celebrating Molly’s incredible milestone

Turning 100 years of age is one of the greatest milestones in a person’s life. Recently one of our long-time residents, Molly O’Neil, celebrated this milestone. Anyone who knows Molly knows of her incredible life, devoting many years to serving and bettering our community. She has been part of the Kempsey Country Women’s Association (CWA) for an impressive 65 years. This service in itself is another reason to celebrate the marvellous Molly.
CWAs are such an important community organisation found throughout towns in regional, remote and rural Australia. They provide a safe, social connection for women through valuable activities that help support community initiatives. It’s safe to say that in her 65 years of service to Kempsey’s CWA, Molly has helped our shire become the great community it is today.
Wishing you a Happy 100th year Molly and congratulations on all that you have and continue to achieve.
In the spirit of Molly’s amazing service, we will soon be calling for nominations for our Australia Day Awards that recognise citizens who have made amazing contributions. If you know of any local heroes, please think about nominating them so we can celebrate their good work.
Sticking it out in the tough times
As I attended the Kempsey Show Society’s Annual General Meeting recently, it occurred to me that by the time the next Kempsey Show is held on 26 and 27 April 2022, it will have been three years since this important celebration of recognising our agricultural heritage and industry was held.
I would like to acknowledge and thank the Kempsey Show Society’s Executive and members for all their hard work during the year. I know and appreciate how much planning and volunteer time is put in. All community groups have faced roadblocks and difficulties over the past few years but these organisations keep going and looking toward the future. The governance and leadership given by groups like the Kempsey Show Society needs to be applauded, as the past few years have not been easy ones to navigate.
I look forward to seeing things back in full swing as this will be a deserved reward for our shire who have shown how to stand up, and come back, time and time again.
