Who do you know that deserves community recognition? Or should I say, who do you know who is always doing that wonderful thing for our community?

It is in your hands to nominate and honour them!

There are so many people in our villages and shire that deserve recognition, and we need the community to step up and name them.

Nominations are now open for the 2023 Australia Day Awards. It will take you five minutes to do it, just head to Council’s website and follow the links.

You have until 15 December to nominate that amazing person in one of two categories:

Citizen of the Year

This is for a person who has contributed or given outstanding service to the community or been an inspiration to others.

Local Hero

Young or old, volunteers or not, a local hero is anyone you know who has made a difference to our community in the past year.

What makes Australians and Australia so special? Our country and our citizens have always come together and shared many positive events that contribute to who we are. Australians have achieved in many areas such as science, sports and culture. We should acknowledge and be proud of all people in our community that continue to make Australia such a wonderful place to live.

Recently the Kempsey Shire Council Australia Day Committee met and started the process of organising next year’s event. One of our tasks was to choose our Australia Day Ambassador. Once confirmed I am sure she (a clue!) will be warmly welcomed by the whole community.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day commemoration east kempsey

Last week I was honoured to attend the Remembrance Service at the East Kempsey Cenotaph.

It was a sombre time to reflect on the services of our Australian Defence Forces. The service included the laying of wreaths, the Last Post and uniting in silence for one minute.

It was an appropriate way to remember and give thanks to our service men and women, especially for those that did not return home.
