A message from the Mayor: Apprenticeships and Traineeships

a water operations trainee

Last week my nephew announced he had accepted an apprenticeship to be a builder. The family and I were thrilled with his positive news.

There are many such pathways to full-time work for young people finishing school. Please share the following good news about opportunities at Kempsey Shire Council.

We are looking for a fresh batch of young residents to kickstart their careers at Council as trainees or apprentices.

These opportunities are unique in the way that successful applicants will gain real-world experience while studying at the same time. Gaining nationally recognised qualifications while learning the tools of the trade is a valuable experience.

I will highlight three roles that are open for applications at present:

Electrical Fitter Apprentice

The Electrical Fitter Apprenticeship is a great opportunity for people interested in the electrical industry. As an Electrical Fitter Apprentice for Council, successful applicants will assist our Electricians in keeping Council’s water and wastewater assets operating correctly. While they are working with us, they will also complete the Certificate 3 in Electrotechnology Electrician at TAFE NSW.

Mechanical Fitter Apprentice

For those interested in starting a career in mechanical engineering, this apprenticeship is on offer. A mechanical fitter apprentice plays a role in maintaining Council’s water and wastewater assets while completing a Certificate 3 in Engineering and Mechanical Trade through TAFE NSW.

Water Operations Trainees

We are seeking two Water and Sewer Network and two Water and Sewer Process trainees. The successful trainees will help Council’s Water and Sewer team in the operations, servicing and repairs of Council’s water and wastewater assets. During the traineeship, trainees will also complete a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations at TAFE NSW.

For those with a can-do attitude and are looking to join our award-winning organisation that fully supports every apprentice and trainee throughout their employment, I encourage you to submit your application. Gain more information at Careers

Thank you,

Mayor Leo Hauville.
