From the Mayor's Desk: Showing local businesses that Kempsey cares
Published on 06 September 2021
There is no doubting that lockdowns are tough on all of us, but they’re especially hard on our businesses.
Already bearing the brunt of some tough years, the initial COVID restrictions followed by full lockdown has meant that for many their regular income has dried up. Many of our local businesses have had to close their doors or adjust their operation for customers to only make essential visits.
Many of the shops that our community relies upon for our way of life, from restaurants to corner stores, boutique retailers to butchers and bakers, are struggling. We rely on them but they also rely on us.
That’s why I’d urge you to take the chance to show your support this week. Council is promoting a #KempseyCares campaign to inspire our community to buy locally and support our local shops.
It’s easy to do and best of all, you get to go shopping! Some of the ways we can show our businesses that Kempsey Cares this week are:
- Order takeaway
- Buy online from a local retailer
- Purchase a gift certificate from a local shop
- Order produce locally
- Just cheer them on! Give your favourite local shop a shout out on social media.
They’re simple steps that can really help if we all chip in, and there are more suggestions and more info at ksc.pub/kempseycares
Remember to ask R U OK?
Thursday 9 September is R U OK? Day and this year’s theme is ‘Are they really OK? Ask them today.’
I will admit, this year has been a tough one and I am grateful to have a great support network to lean on.
Check in on your mates and loved ones and remember, every day is a day to ask if someone is OK.
