Rain keeps preventing Maria River Road fix

Crews have been ready and set to begin grading Maria River Road, however, several months of consistent wet weather has given little opportunity for this to happen.
Kempsey Shire Council Director Operations and Planning, Robert Fish, acknowledges that Maria River Road is in poor condition and understands this is frustrating for residents.
“We haven’t been able to commence grading as the road has been too wet and grading would be counterproductive, however, as soon as conditions permit we will begin works to bring it to an appropriate condition,” Mr Fish said.
A long-term project to seal Maria River Road is also underway. Kempsey Shire Council and Port Macquarie Hastings Council have been granted funding under the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads program to jointly upgrade the road.
