Last week local oyster farmers teamed up to clean up the Macleay River as a part of their annual Tide to Tip event to ensure that our local river system remains happy and healthy.

Our oyster farmers have a close relationship with their local environment. Oyster farmers have an intimate knowledge of their local environment and regularly collect the rubbish that is found floating in the estuary. Thanks to their diligence, the river is a cleaner place for marine life to thrive.

The Tide to Tip event, sponsored by OceanWatch, highlights the need to keep the estuary clean and raises awareness about the importance of a healthy river system. To help with their efforts, Council & Cleanaway supported the event with free waste disposal. Tide to Tip not only provides a way for fishers and farmers to give back to their estuaries on which their livelihoods depend but helps to make sure that Australian waterways remain pristine and healthy for the generations to come.
