When a flood event strikes the entire shire at once, it takes incredible efforts to coordinate and communicate with the teams to get them where they are needed and Tamara French was crucial to keeping the machinery of Council functioning.

This week is Local Government Week, which is a week dedicated to the important work councils do for their communities.

To acknowledge our committed staff, we are sharing their stories from the March flood event and recovery.

During the recovery effort, Tamara moved outside her normal role of Administration Assistant to handle the incoming calls for help from residents and allocate tasks to crews around the clock.

“The type of tasks I assisted with were coordinating food drops to isolated community members, helping with the evacuation of the town centre and reporting river levels to the Bureau of Meteorology.”

“Not always having enough resources to help the community straight away when they needed was a huge challenge but seeing how the team came together, working tireless without complaint to assist the community in their time of need.”

“We were lucky to have a great team coordinating the response and it felt amazing to be a part of it.”
