Woolworths donates $5000 for stores in isolated Hat Head

The Hat Head community has been replenished with fresh food and supplies after receiving deliveries via helicopter and 4WDS this week.

In a collective effort led by Kempsey Shire Council, Woolworths supermarket, Kempsey donated $5000 worth of groceries for the town which were delivered via helicopter by the NSW RFS and SES on Wednesday and Thursday.

On land, deliveries were also carried out by NSW National Parks using 4WDS which were able to access Hat Head via the beach.

Woolworths Kempsey store manager, Lee Humphries, said the local supermarket was more than happy to help out with such an important cause.

"We're pleased to help our nearby neighbours in Hat Head with donations of fresh food, meat, milk and other grocery staples to ensure the community can access the essentials while they're cut off by flood waters,” he said.  

"When Kempsey Shire Council approached us we didn't think twice about lending a hand to the collective effort led by Council and supported by the RFS and SES.

"This has been an incredibly challenging time for our close-knit community, and we were keen to do our bit after reopening on Wednesday, once it was safe to do so for our team and customers."
