Beware of the poisonous Green Cestrum weed
Published on 25 October 2022
Many gardens and paddocks are hostage to some pretty good-looking bad guys that can be toxic.
Kempsey Shire Council is encouraging residents to be aware of weeds posing often as pretty plants that are actually very toxic for people and animals.
A local family recently felt the devasting impact of Green Cestrum after losing two horses to the poisonous weed.
Green Cestrum is a large shrub with shiny leaves, clusters of yellow flowers and shiny, blackberries. All parts of Green Cestrum are poisonous, and it is highly poisonous to livestock and humans.
Unfortunately, it is found in all regions of New South Wales. All landowners are required to control and safely remove all Green Cestrum on their land.
If you require more information about getting rid of Green Cestrum on your property, please contact Council’s Weeds Officers om 6566 3200 or visit the NSW Government's Department of Primary Industries WeedWise page
