Be creative with sports training when fields are closed
Published on 08 April 2022
For sports clubs around the shire, training on grassy fields seems a distant memory with grounds remaining closed due to wet conditions.
Kempsey Shire Council Acting Coordinator Civic Services, Katy Rogan, understands sports clubs are eager to get back out on the fields in anticipation of the start of the winter sports season.
“We’re assessing the condition of the fields daily and making decisions based on the surface condition, the potential damage that could occur and the safety of users,” said Ms Rogan.
“While the fields are closed, we’d like to encourage groups to think of other ways to prepare for the season, whether it’s taking training to the asphalt courts or using the running track and fitness equipment around Verge and Eden Streets Sporting Complex.”
“Talk to local fitness centres like gyms or the PCYC to see if you could organise classes or training to take place there while waiting for the fields to dry out and be safe to use again.”
As fields begin to reopen, Council will begin to install equipment such as goal posts and line marking fields.
With wet weather forecast throughout the next week, residents should check Council’s Facebook page and website as any changes will be published there.
