The Island of Doctor Moron

From the Mayor's Desk

A tale of two screenings

There are two special screenings of movies coming up that I wanted to draw your attention to. I am a big supporter of both of these events and the organisations behind them. Tickets for both events can be purchased via the Majestic Cinema website or at the cinema.

The Island of Doctor Moron

I was at the premiere screening of the now internationally acclaimed film of the musical The Island of Doctor Moron in Sydney to support its producers Chris and Lyn Dockrill and I loved it. Now they are generously donating the proceeds from a special screening of their film to raise funds for the Kempsey Police and Community Youth Centre, and Kempsey Shire Council is proud to sponsor this event.

The screening of the film will take place at 4pm Sunday 2 May at Riverside Cinema with tickets including drinks and refreshments at the Country University Centre downstairs at Kempsey Central from 2:30pm.

2040

Macleay Living Sustainably, with the support of Kempsey Shire Council, are holding two event screenings of the documentary 2040.

I was at the first screening of 2040 in Kempsey at Oddfellows Hall in November 2019. I really believe everyone, young and old will gain from seeing 2040. If you go with an open mind it does give you something to really think about, gain perspective and visualise interesting ideas.

There will be two screenings of the film at Majestic Cinemas, Kempsey Central, funded by Kempsey Shire Council. The first at 4.30pm Saturday 1 May and the second at noon Sunday 23 May. Tickets are at the discounted price of $6 with net profits going towards Sustainability Fest.

Catch us live

One more event to plug and this one’s not a film, it’s live! Come and join my fellow Councillors, Council staff and myself at the Slim Dusty Centre on Thursday 6 May to discuss the future of our shire.

Following last week’s amazing community catch-up in Frederickton, the Kempsey community have their turn next week. Part of the evening will be your chance to share your ideas on what you would like to see for Kempsey and surrounding area.
