Concerns raised over Crescent Head's dog walking rules
Published on 22 June 2022
Dog owners of Crescent Head are upset about the possible reduction in the already limited dog walking access on local beaches.
Kempsey Shire Council understands the community concerns and has met with concerned residents and National Parks and Wildlife Service on multiple occasions.
Council has advocated to the Minister to preserve the existing level or expand dog walking access on beaches, however the National Parks and Wildlife Service has the ultimate decision as they balance user needs with the need to balance environmental concerns.
These issues were raised in the submissions made on the draft Plans of Management for Goolawah and Limeburners Creek National Parks and have also been raised with the Minister by Council.
Residents are advised that the National Parks and Wildlife Service Rangers will enforce the rules, however Goolawah Regional Park remains an area where dogs are permitted, including the beach area.
Council is considering options for improving dog walking facilities in the future, however has no specific plans or funding in place at this stage.
