Jake is a young man who brings a sense of positivity and joy to everyone he meets. Jake enjoys hobbies such as ten pin bowling, playing basketball and spending time with his friends. Jake has been working towards his NDIS goals of gaining work through Key Employment and now works two days a week at a local supermarket, which he describes as being ‘awesome’.
“I wish people knew my disability doesn’t stop me from working towards and accomplishing my goals and dreams. I wish people would understand that I have a big heart and lots of friends that I care for and not judge me by my appearance.”
Kempsey Shire Council has developed a new Disability Inclusion Action Plan. With your help we can create a more inclusive and accessible community for people with disability, like Jake. Read more of Jake’s story at www.ksc.pub/DIAPjake
Rudder Park closed for three weeks
Rudder Park will be closed for around three weeks as ecologists carry out bush regeneration works to encourage flying-foxes to roost closer to the Macleay River and away from residential homes.
Kempsey Shire Council has heard community concerns that flying-foxes in Rudder Park East Kempsey are creating significant mess, noise and frustration for residents and has engaged ecologists to create a buffer between flying-fox habitat and neighbouring homes.
Works will take place Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm, beginning Monday 11 July. During this time Rudder Park will be closed to the public and there will be minimal disturbance to the species.
As flying-foxes are listed as vulnerable, Council cannot interfere with the colony in any way to remove them from Rudder Park. These works are to tempt the species to roost further away from homes.
Scammers targeting people during floods
There are reports of scammers posing as workers from the Rural Fire Service and State Emergency Service door knocking on people's homes or phoning them seeking donations. Some are even in uniforms and appear to be legitimate.
Neither the RFS nor SES door knock or call asking for donations. Scammers play on people's goodwill and emotions to get money for their benefit.
