Crucial conversations on disaster preparedness and strengthening communication in Crescent Head on Thursday night saw the first wave of Better Together Network meetings wrap up.

Crescent Head residents joined Mayor Leo Hauville, Councillor Arthur Bain, Councillor Alexandra Wyatt, Council staff and Jan Rooney from the National Emergency Management Agency (formerly National Recovery and Resilience Agency), to explain what can be done to equip the village with services and resources to manage the impacts of impending and during natural disaster events.

As no strangers to isolation because of flooding, residents discussed in detail what worked well in the past and provided solutions for improving this.

When disaster strikes, a lot of resources are propped into recovery efforts and the aim of the Better Together Network meetings is to help towns prepare before the event. That is why with support from federal and state government agencies, Council is working with our communities to be better prepared for disasters and supported for long-term recovery.

The findings from the meetings will now be individually collated before Council returns to each Better Together Network to strengthen the information even further later this year.

Council will look to see what actions can be put in place as soon as possible.

The Better Together Network will be expanded across the region and will take place in the new year.
