A proposal to renew Alcohol Free Zones and create a new Alcohol Prohibited Area

Council supports a comprehensive approach in tackling alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour. This includes Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ) and Alcohol Prohibited Areas (APA).

Having identified locations assists in creating a safer environment for our residents, businesses and visitors.

These assist NSW Police to address alcohol related crime and antisocial behaviour in public spaces, by allowing them to confiscate, ‘tip out’ alcohol and apply a fine for obstruction, in circumstances where a person does not cooperate with a request by the Police.

Kempsey Shire Council is calling for submissions on the proposed renewal of Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ) in the local government area, which expire shortly, as well as the creation of a new Alcohol Prohibited Area (APA) at the Pump Track in West Kempsey.

Have your say

Submissions are welcome via the council’s community website ‘Your Say Macleay’ until Monday 25 September 2023. Visit yoursay.macleay.nsw.gov.au/alcohol-free-zone-renewal-2023

What is an Alcohol Free Zone?

An Alcohol Free Zone is one where it is illegal to consume alcohol 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

By identifying AFZ locations we assist in creating a safer environment for our residents, businesses and visitors.

What is an Alcohol Prohibited Area?

There are two types of Alcohol Prohibited Areas in Kempsey Shire. Areas where it is illegal to consume alcohol 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Secondly, areas where it is illegal to consume alcohol between 7pm and 11am daily.

Council has a number of existing Alcohol Prohibited Areas established.

We are looking to create a new Alcohol Prohibited Area that covers the Pump Track in West Kempsey.
