Willow Street carpark to be restored as public greenspace

The overflow carpark on Willow Street, Crescent Head, is set to be restored to public greenspace, ensuring year-round community access.

Previously used by the Holiday Park to accommodate overflow parking during peak holiday periods, this area will soon be rehabilitated and returned to public use.

Over the coming weeks, Kempsey Shire Council staff and contractors will begin work to remove the old bollards and signage designating the overflow carpark. New timber bollards will be installed around the perimeter, the gravel surface will be removed to allow for grass re-seeding, and an old-style covered picnic table will be replaced.

This decision follows Council’s commitment in June 2024 to restrict the Holiday Park’s use of the Willow Street reserve for overflow parking. Community feedback strongly supported the return of this space for public enjoyment throughout the year.

While visitors, including Holiday Park guests, will still be able to park along Willow Street when needed, the restoration of the reserve will provide additional open space for locals and visitors alike.

The rehabilitation works are expected to be completed before the April school holidays.
