The Macleay River has been included in a Flood Watch issued by the Bureau of Meteorology. The warning can be viewed at Flood Warning - Flood Watch 1

As a precaution, Council staff will close flood mitigation infrastructure on Saturday 29 March including:

  • Belmore River and Kinchela Creek flood relief gates
  • Belmore River, Kinchela Creek, Christmas Creek, and Euroka Creek crossover gates

Landholders on the Lower Macleay contact list have been notified of this via SMS.

Under normal conditions, the relief gates and crossover gates are left open to allow tidal movement and water aeration. However, they are closed when flooding is expected to help manage the flow of floodwater. While these measures help mitigate the impact of floods, they do not prevent them entirely.
