Celebration, collaboration and community activity

Those three things have been among my top priorities this week and have reminded me once again of the strength and resilience of the Macleay Valley!
Celebrating Local Graduates
I had the privilege of attending the Country Universities Centre (CUC) graduation ceremony. This was significant as it marked the first cohort of students to complete their studies since the CUC opened in 2021. Among the graduates were Rachel and Tracey – two friends who, as Assistant in Nursing (AINs), decided to take the next step by studying nursing online through Charles Sturt University, with CUC support. They are now Registered Nurses at our local hospital, making a real difference in our community. Their journey is a testament to the vision of the CUC and the work of former Mayor Liz Campbell in bringing this incredible resource to the Macleay. Congratulations to all the graduates—I have no doubt you will go on to accomplish great things!
Taking Action on Crime
On a different note, this week also saw a crucial community meeting about crime in our region, coordinated by our local MP, Michael Kemp. Either you or someone you know has likely been affected by criminal activity. We are fortunate to live in a beautiful, welcoming and kind community. We need to work together to act and create a safer environment for our residents.
Regional Leaders Forum
I also attended the Regional Leaders Forum, where leaders from Coffs Harbour to Port Macquarie gathered to discuss shared priorities for the Mid North Coast. It’s clear that our region faces common challenges. At this meeting we discussed crime, transport, waste and more. It was clear that by working together across all levels of government, we can advocate more effectively for the changes and support our communities need.
Upcoming Seniors Week Event
In terms of looking ahead in my calendar, I’m excited that on Friday, 7 March 2025, Kempsey Central will transform into a hub of entertainment, learning, and connection— all for free, as part of NSW Seniors Festival. With the theme "Time to Shine," the event will be a fantastic opportunity to explore new interests, connect, and discover services that support healthy aging. This is a great way to celebrate our senior community, so don’t miss out! For more details visit ksc.pub/seniors2025.
All the best,
Kinne
