After months of anticipation, community engagement, and hundreds of votes, the Nulla Nulla Regional Gallery has its new logo!

Back in September 2024, at the opening of the Melinda Schneider art exhibition, visitors and community members were invited to help shape the gallery’s future by voting on one of four unique logo designs.

The response was overwhelming, with hundreds of votes cast at the Slim Dusty Centre. Now, the results are in—and one design stood out by a landslide.

The winning logo, receiving ten times the votes of the other designs, is an Indigenous-themed artwork featuring hand-drawn lettering and symbols. Created by Kempsey Shire Council’s in-house designer and refined in consultation with a local Indigenous graphic artist, Stephen McLeod the logo is deeply meaningful.

The central ‘N’ in the design is a symbol for people in Indigenous cultures, representing gathering, connection, and meeting together on Dunghutti country—where the ocean meets the land. This reflects the gallery’s vision as a cultural meeting place for artists, locals, and visitors alike.

Annette Young, Museum and Gallery Curator at the Slim Dusty Centre, expressed her excitement about the community’s involvement in the process:

“We wanted the Nulla Nulla Regional Gallery to have a brand that truly belonged to the community. The overwhelming response to the vote and the clear preference for this design shows how much people care about the gallery and its place in the Macleay Valley’s cultural landscape. It’s more than just a logo—it’s a symbol of connection, history, and creativity.”

The Nulla Nulla Regional Gallery officially became a regional gallery in 2024, marking a significant step forward for arts and culture in the Macleay Valley. This achievement, along with a state-funded refurbishment set to enhance the venue hire space by June this year, cements the Slim Dusty Centre’s role as both a tourism hub and a thriving community facility.

A huge thank you to everyone who voted and helped shape the gallery’s identity.
