I am so very excited to welcome you to this first edition of the Mayor’s weekly column for the new term of Council.

It is my great honour to have been elected as the new Mayor of our great shire and I look forward to representing you all, no matter who you voted for, in the years to come. The same can be said for all of the Councillors who are in the chamber for the next four years. We are here for you.

But why am I excited? Because I genuinely believe this community, from its natural beauties to its incredible people, has the capacity to do amazing things, a quality that is shared with the organisation I am proud to have been chosen to lead. I have confidence that the upcoming term will deliver a change in leadership that brings Council and the community closer together.

Already Council staff and the community have teamed up in a new way. Last Friday in Kempsey and across this week in Crescent Head, Stuarts Point, South West Rocks and Willawarrin, senior staff from Council stood on street corners to talk to people in the street. Asking them to share their hopes and concerns about the future.

The community were in full voice, from their aspirations for the Kempsey Shire to pressing issues like environmental sustainability, economic growth, and community services.

These face-to-face gatherings provide an extra opportunity for our community to share their thoughts and ideas, reflecting the call for active participation in local governance that we heard during the election.

The feedback and ideas will play a crucial role in informing future planning and initiatives. Thank you to everyone who had your say. Your insights are invaluable as we work together on our future.

If you wish to have your say and share your thoughts, please head to www.ksc.pub/CommunitySurvey-2024 or reach out to me at any time at kinne.ring@kempsey.nsw.gov.au

Finally, I am excited to welcome back this column. I look forward to writing to you each week with news from Council and the community as we work together to shape our future.

Thank you and take care,

Mayor Kinne Ring
