Comprehensive road repairs on Sherwood Road Bridge
Published on 10 October 2024
Critical infrastructure repairs are set to begin on Sherwood Road bridge, promising long-term benefits for the community by enhancing safety and reliability for all road users. Though the temporary closure will cause some disruptions, these essential improvements will ensure a smoother and more secure crossing for years to come.
The bridge will be closed to all traffic from 11 November for approximately 2 weeks ending at the end of November 2024. By investing in this upgrade now, residents can look forward to safer travel and a more resilient local road network.
These works will cover the entire width of the bridge and are designed to ensure long-term safety and reliability for all road users.
Unfortunately, this closure will impact all vehicles, including school buses. Road users are advised the alternative crossings of the Macleay River are at Lord Street Kempsey, and Turners Flat Road at Skillion Flat.
While the anticipated completion date is estimated to be at the end of November 2024, there may be unforeseen delays, and updates will be provided as necessary.
To minimise disruption, Variable Message Sign (VMS) boards will be placed well in advance to keep the community informed and provide timely updates.
We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period. For those affected by this closure, we encourage planning ahead.
Should you have any questions or require further information, please don’t hesitate to contact Kempsey Shire Council.
