Local Government election ballot draw

The Local Government elections are fast approaching – and it’s time to start thinking about when and how to vote for the Shire’s newest batch of Councillors.

Voting is compulsory, with a failure to vote resulting in a penalty. To make voting as simple as possible, the Electoral Commission offers postal voting, early voting or pre-polling, as well as a range of locations to vote at on election day.

To submit your vote by mail, you need to register your postal vote application by Monday 9 September, and then after you vote, your completed ballot papers and postal vote certificate must be received by the NSW Electoral Commission by 6pm on Friday 27 September 2024.

You can check your eligibility to vote by mail, as well as download an application form or apply online on the NSW Electoral Commission website.

Voters also can also vote in person on the week before the election at two locations in Kempsey Shire: the Kempsey Anglican Church and the South West Rocks CWA rooms. Both of these venues are also voting places on election day.

The church is fully wheelchair accessible, and both venues open at 8:30am daily from Saturday 7 September until Friday 13 September. There is no voting at any venue on Sunday, 8 September.

For more information on the pre-poll venues and their opening hours, visit the NSW Electoral Commission website.

The actual voting day is Saturday 14 September, and there are several voting locations:

  • Aldavilla Public School
  • Bellbrook Public School
  • Crescent Head Community Hall
  • Frederickton Public School
  • Gladstone Community Hall
  • Hat Head Community Centre
  • Kempsey East Public School
  • Kempsey High School
  • Kundabung Recreation & Public Hall
  • Melville Sport & Recreation Centre
  • South West Rocks Public School
  • Stuarts Point Community Hall
  • Willawarrin Public School

For more information on the upcoming election, as well as details on the candidates, visit the NSW Electoral Commission’s website. Results for the Local Government elections should be available in early October.
