The Community Road Safety Grants program is now open, giving us all the opportunity to make tangible improvements that will benefit everyone who calls the Macleay Valley home. Safer roads mean fewer accidents, less stress, and a community where everyone can move around more securely.

The Community Road Safety Grants program empowers local groups to tackle road safety issues unique to their communities. By focusing on vulnerable groups and local challenges, these initiatives can significantly enhance road safety.

Community groups are in a unique position to influence road safety behaviours in their local community through small-scale, local projects. Applications that target at-risk groups, including older road users, Aboriginal and CALD communities, young drivers, and residents of regional, rural, and remote areas are encouraged. Examples of projects funded in previous rounds include:

  • Free or subsidised driver education for disadvantaged and Indigenous youth.
  • Training to improve road safety for children with disabilities as passengers in motor vehicles.
  • Programs which provide opportunities for driving lessons, car maintenance and repairs for vulnerable women and youth who have been subjected to domestic and family violence.

These projects help increase road safety awareness and contribute to moving towards zero fatalities and serious injuries on NSW roads.

If you’re a community group in the Macleay with a bright idea to improve road safety now is the time to put your foot on the pedal! Grants are available ranging from $5,000 to $30,000. Applications are open until Monday, 16 September 2024.

Remember, it’s not just about the destination—it’s about the journey, and together, we can make it a safer one for all.
