Kempsey Shire residents can have their say on three sporting and recreation plans currently on exhibition, including Willawarrin Recreation Ground, South West Rocks High Performance Centre, and South Kempsey Park.

The draft master plan for the Willawarrin Recreation Ground includes plans for the sports field such as improved drainage, barriers and lighting, upgraded equestrian area including upgrades to gates and yards and facilities, improvements to the camping and mixed use areas, and a new multi-purpose tennis court.

The site's potential for large events is limited by adjacent private properties. The Master Plan proposes improving existing facilities, reducing use conflicts, and providing adaptable spaces and camping facilities for Aid groups stationed here for long periods.

The draft master plan for the South Kempsey Park Draft Masterplan includes ideas for improving the surrounding parkland, including a leash free dog walking area and off street pedestrian and cycle link, upgrade existing tennis courts to include smaller courts such as basketball, netball, volleyball and pickle ball, and improvements to the parking area and oval.

The newly completed South Kempsey pump and learn to ride tracks are included in the master plan for the area and have proven to be a hit with BMX enthusiasts and young families.

User groups and members of the community were consulted to inform the development of all the master plans, to gather feedback, listen to concerns and consider the future needs of the community.

Delivery of the items within these plans are NOT currently funded. Future funding opportunities sourced by Council staff or Community groups will be needed to complete these works. Having master plans for each site is essential to get access to grant funding.
