The much-anticipated Saltwater Freshwater Art Exhibition is set to open at the Nulla Nulla Gallery from 9 August to 22 September 2024.

This biennial touring exhibition is a remarkable celebration of Indigenous art and culture, combining the Saltwater Freshwater Aboriginal Art Award and contemporary cultural objects from the 2023 exhibition.

The exhibition will feature the artistic talents of local Indigenous artists from the Worimi, Biripi, Dunghutti, and Gumbaynggirr Nations, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry of the Mid North Coast of NSW.

Visitors will be treated to an eclectic and diverse range of artworks and cultural objects, each telling personal, powerful, and emotional stories of Aboriginal life, culture, spirit, and connection to country.

Saltwater Freshwater Arts Curator Catherine Croll, who will be a speaker at the opening, explained the cultural importance of country and ancestors in the artworks.

"Many of the works specifically reference the colour of the artist’s saltwater/freshwater country and their connections to the ancestral knowledge and lore passed down over millennia."

Among the featured pieces are the award-winning "Sticks ‘n’ Stones" by Alison Williams and the highly commended works "Our Elders" by Rachel Cross and "We walked to the other side of the world" by Zoe Golding. These artworks exemplify the depth and diversity of the exhibition, offering a profound insight into the artists' connections to their heritage and environment.

Don’t miss this extraordinary opportunity to experience the vibrancy of Indigenous culture through the eyes of its talented artists. Join us at the Nulla Nulla Gallery to celebrate and support our local Indigenous communities - refreshments provided!
