The projects teams from around Council have been working hard on several projects this month, including the Toorumbee Road landslip remediation, Stuarts Point stormwater remediation, and Smithtown Levee Bank remediation.

Toorumbee Road Landslip Remediation

Severe storms and floods in January 2020 caused significant damage to the lower embankment of Toorumbee Road, requiring immediate remediation to ensure safety and accessibility.

The project, funded by Transport for NSW under the natural disaster AGRN 898 program, involved reinforcing the embankment with rock backfill and installing jute mesh further down the slope to support vegetation regrowth and prevent erosion.

The road surface has been re-instated, reflectors have been replaced, and the road width has been restored to its original 4.6 metres, ensuring the road is safe and fully operational once again.

Stuarts Point Stormwater Remediation

Kimpton Street and Sports Field

Severe storms and floods on 10 March 2021 caused extensive damage to the stormwater drainage systems at Kimpton Street and the Sports Field in Stuarts Point, posing significant flood risks to residents and properties.

Funded by Public Works Advisory under the natural disaster AGRN 960 program, the project aimed to restore the damaged drainage system and land back to its previous capacity.

The project has now been successfully completed, ensuring long-term effectiveness of the stormwater drainage system and providing enhanced protection against future flood issues.

Smithtown Levee Bank Remediation

On March 10, 2021, severe storms and floods caused extensive damage to the levee bank near John Street and Russell Avenue in Smithtown, creating safety and structural concerns.

Funded by Public Works Advisory under the natural disaster AGRN 960 program, the remediation project aims to fully restore the levee.

Currently, the project is 90% complete, with the levee's integrity and safety largely restored. The final phase includes constructing two concrete staircases for access to the Macleay River, enhancing community access and convenience.
