Recognising the furry friends of the Kempsey Shire
Published on 07 March 2024
From Healthy Dog Days to pet adoption in Kempsey, we have unsung heroes of the shire: Introducing the Friends of Kempsey Pound and Kempsey Shire Rangers.
The Friends of Kempsey Pound help shelter, feed and provide temporary homes for the animals of the shire that are unfortunately without a home.
Through the determination and dedication from volunteers, the Friends of Kempsey Pound have allowed the Kempsey Pound to become a ‘no-kill’ pound.
This means that every animal that comes into the care of Kempsey Pound can have a second chance at finding a forever home.
Not only do they help animals feel safe and comfortable with a temporary home, alongside the Kempsey Shire Council’s Ranger Team, Friends of Kempsey Pound are able to host Healthy Dog Days.
These events provide residents of the shire an opportunity to bring their dogs along to get free Parvac Vaccinations, Flea & Tick Treatment, Worming & Microchipping, ensuring the dogs of Kempsey are healthy, able to find their way back home if they ever get lost and most importantly, happy!
Both Council and Friends of Kempsey Pound have seen an increase in dogs with Parvovirus and mange coming into their care.
As both conditions are contagious yet preventable, this prompted Friends of Kempsey Pound to start hosting Healthy Dog Days in an effort to protect dogs from potentially fatal diseases.
We have recently had an influx of both dogs and cats, with over fifty animals currently looking to find a new home, including cats such as Katie.
Katie is a beautiful one year old Domestic Shorthair whose favourite pastime includes snuggling with anyone who will let her, following you around and sharing her limitless love.
Katie has been in our care for over two months and is ready to find her forever home.
If you are interested in adopting Katie or any of our other animals, please head to ksc.pub/pets.
