Summer Holiday Break Workshops at Slim Dusty Centre ignite creativity in Macleay region youth
As the summer holidays approach, the Slim Dusty Centre is gearing up to host a series of creative workshops aimed at fostering artistic expression among the youth of the Macleay region. Supported by the Regional Youth Holiday Break Program of the NSW Government, these workshops provide an exciting opportunity for young minds to explore their artistic talents.
Junior Children's Workshops with Artist Antonija Gross
Artist Antonija Gross will lead engaging workshops every Tuesday on January 9, 16, and 23 from 11 am to 2:00 pm. Titled "Slim Dusty's Roadtrip," participants will embark on a creative journey inspired by Slim Dusty's iconic 'Wild Violet' Ford Fairlane, immersing themselves in the charm of the Australian outback. The workshops emphasize personalization of projects and the use of recycled materials, instilling a sense of sustainability for the future.

Senior Children's Workshops: Exploring Cubism with Slim Dusty's Guitar
Geared towards 12 to 17-year-olds, Antonija Gross will guide participants every Wednesday on January 10, 17, and 24, from 11 am to 2:00 pm. Delving into the world of Cubism, the workshops explore the common threads between Slim Dusty's guitar, Picasso, and Cubist art. Attendees will learn to apply Slim Dusty's guitar to the Cubist style, fostering creativity and producing unique, original works of art.

Youth Workshops: A Macleay Landscape with Artist Simon Mark
For 18 to 24-year-olds, local artist Simon Mark will conduct workshops on Fridays, January 12 and 19, from 11 am to 2:30 pm. Inspired by his current exhibition in the Nulla Nulla Gallery, titled 'Up the Macleay,' participants will have the opportunity to create stunning landscapes. The workshops aim to teach techniques for incorporating color, imagery, and movement into depictions of the local surroundings.

All workshops are free, but booking online is essential due to limited spaces (max 15 participants per session). Visit ksc.pub/summer-workshops for more information and to make a booking.
No prior artistic experience is required, and all materials will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring their lunch or purchase it from the onsite cafe.
These workshops promise to be a source of inspiration, encouraging young individuals to explore their creativity and connect with the rich cultural heritage of the Macleay region.
