Keep our town safe by using Community Sharps Bins

Kempsey Shire Council has recently seen an increase in reports of improper and dangerously disposed needles at reserves and amenities across our Shire.

While there are many reasons for using hypodermic needles, syringes and other ‘sharps’ in every part of our Community, Council is reminding the community to dispose of these items appropriately to ensure the safety of the whole community.

If you use syringes at home, please store your used sharps in a plastic puncture-proof container with a lid, or a yellow sharps container, then take them to one of our local community sharps bins. Free community sharps bins are provided in these locations.

Placing syringes or sharps, including needles and lancets (finger prickers), in household or public bins can also cause injury to those who empty our bins and sort our waste.

Please ensure you are being mindful when disposing of your sharps as improper disposal puts others at risk.

If you find a syringe in a public place, phone Kempsey Shire Council on 6566 3200 or the NSW Needle Clean Up Hotline on 1800 633 353.
