Kempsey moves to sole dam water supply
Published on 27 September 2023
Kempsey Shire Council has made the decision to move solely to Dam water supply for the Shire’s water delivery.
Due to the Macleay River level dropping below our extraction limit, Council will no longer be able to use Sherwood’s bore supply to fill Greenhill Reservoir or Steuart McIntyre Dam. Therefore, Council has made the change to move solely to dam water supply.
The change was made on Wednesday morning.
The Shire has not yet hit the trigger for water restrictions.
Despite this, we ask everyone in the community to be conscious of water use as we enter what is expected to be a prolonged dry period.
Council is committed to long-term planning for a secure water supply and also providing high-quality drinking water.
