Construction of a new and stronger Buchanans Bridge is scheduled during September and October.

Kempsey Shire Council is replacing Buchanans Bridge along Belmore River Left Bank Road between Monday 25 September and Saturday 7 October.

During this time, Belmore River Left Bank Road will be closed at this location and detours will be in place.

Signage will be installed to advise residents of the upcoming road closure and detour information.

Once constructed, Buchanans Bridge will be a new concrete structure, able to withstand heavier loads and provide safer conditions.

Councils waste collector, Cleanaway, will contact residents regarding waste collection arrangements.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused while this project takes place.

Detour details

Residents downstream of the bridge location are not affected as access to South West Rocks Road will remain open.

Residents upstream of the bridge location will need to use the river crossover floodgate culvert onto Belmore River Right Bank Road.

Costs for this replacement is part of Council's $20.5 million funding from the NSW Government's Fixing Country Bridges program.
