Pet adoption profile – Millie saved from an unwanted litter.
Published on 02 August 2023
During Local Government Week 2023 our team is sharing their pet adoption stories to advocate the many benefits of finding displaced pets a new loving home.
Megan Kempsey Shire Council’s Environmental Planning Officer shares her story of adopting Millie a Ridgeback x Cattle Dog puppy from a local animal shelter.
“Millie was 1 of a litter of 7, Ridgeback x Cattle dog puppies from an unwanted litter. We adopted her last Nov when she was 7 weeks old. When we got to the shelter, she was the first puppy that came over to us - keen for a play. We took her home then and there! Millie is now 10 months old and loving life. Beach walks are her favourite. She’s still young and loves learning, so we like to spend time progressing her basic obedience in different areas/situations.” Says Megan
When asked about the things she loves best about Millie Megan commented “Her endless optimism that something exciting is just about to happen!”
Megan’s advice to someone considering pet adoption:
A strong advocate for pet adoption Megan’s advice to potential new pet parents is:
- Be willing to learn about your dog – their breed, temperament, and their individual needs.
- Learn how to train your dog – build a bond, be patient and work with them.
Thank you so much Megan for sharing Millie’s successful adoption story with us.
