The community are invited to a special morning tea at the iconic Slim Dusty Centre on Tuesday 13 June 2023 to commemorate what would have been Slim Dusty's 96th birthday.
Kempsey Shire Council is excited to host this special event which promises to be a heartfelt celebration of Slim's incredible life and his deep connection to Kempsey.
Slim Dusty, born in 1927, remains one of Australia's most beloved country music icons. Hailing from our very own Shire, Slim Dusty showcased his talent to the world, captivating audiences with his distinct voice, heartfelt lyrics, and love for our unique Australian landscape. He not only brought joy to countless music lovers but also served as a true ambassador for our community.
The morning tea event, starting at 11am, will be a wonderful opportunity for residents to gather together and pay tribute to this legendary artist. It's a chance to reminisce about Slim's remarkable achievements, share stories, and connect with like-minded fans. And the best part? Morning tea is absolutely free! So, bring your family and friends to join us in celebrating Slim's enduring legacy.
We also invite you to take advantage of a discounted museum entry fee throughout the day. This event also presents an opportunity to honour the memory of Joy McKean, Slim's beloved wife and lifelong music partner. Joy McKean played an integral role in Slim's success, and her recent passing on 25th May 2023 has left a profound void in the hearts of music enthusiasts worldwide.
